Celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth with us while we take a moment to appreciate black excellence in sports & leadership. 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹: Considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He won 11 NBA titles during his 13-year career, led the USF Dons to 2 consecutive NCAA championships & made history as the NBA’s 1st black head coach.
𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝘀: The GOAT. She won more Grand Slams singles titles (23) than any other man/woman during the open era in tennis & is a 4x Gold Medalist. Her VC Fund was established to promote equity; through education, gender, race, disability & anything that stands in the way of someone achieving their goals.
𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻: Broke the color barrier in the MLB in 1947 by becoming the 1st black player in history. Not only did he lead the Dodgers to 6 pennants & 1 World Series, but became the 1st black VP of a major American corporation where he continued to open doors for people of color.
𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗹 𝗦𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Known as one of the best players in WNBA history, she is the 1st player to sign a WNBA contract. Swoopes was the first 3x WNBA MVP & the first 3x WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. She was the 1st woman player to get a signature shoe, with Nike’s Air Swoopes.
𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗼𝗻: Widely regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. Not only is he in the Pro Football Hall of Fame but his legacy continues through the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award & the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation with the mission to take an active role in helping those less fortunate to find stability while providing positive opportunities needed to live their lives with dignity & pride.
𝗔𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘅: An 11x Olympic medalist — The most successful American track & field athlete in history. Off the track, she’s made her mark as an advocate for maternal health & women’s empowerment.
𝗠𝘂𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝗶: Known as ‘The Greatest’. Ali was the first fighter to win the world heavyweight championship on three separate occasions. In addition, he was known for his social message of black pride & black resistance.
